Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh tests his creative boundaries in this nifty supernatural story captured wholly from the perspective of the phantom. When a household with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their recent residence, the filming device – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The daughter appears conscious of the supernatural presence, and the entity appears guarding her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, including a revelation that may be unexpected. Saturday 11 October, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Nicolas Cage embraces his unique fame through this self-referential adventure. Contacted by the intelligence agency to spy on the suspected cartel boss, Cage's unconventional method proves useful. October 11th, evening, Channel 4
The Black Phone Horror
The director's locked-room horror remains effective even without a follow-up. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, several disappearances has rendered the children on edge. After Finney is taken by the villain and imprisoned in a basement, he fears a fatal end. However, the disconnected phone on the wall keeps ringing, with spooky callers giving advice, while the intuitive nightmares from his sibling Gwen could save him. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple commence profiting from the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of bad interior design, bad makeup and hypocrisy, however Jessica Chastain achieves to depict Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
Black Bag
This week's second offering from Steven Soderbergh is a intelligence thriller as sharp like the turtlenecks used by Fassbender's intelligence officer. His assignment is to identify a mole inside the organization out of five possibilities – including is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. The two stars are experts of deadpan cool, so a delicious psychological game of truth or lie develops. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela participate the intelligent intelligence fun. Friday 17 October, various showings, the Sky channel
